Frequently Asked Questions about TGIF Charters

Catch and Release Policies
At TGIF Charters, we pride ourselves on catch, photograph and release tactics to ensure the future of our fishery. However. If a client wants a few fish for dinner or a limit to take home we can and will accommodate. Fish cleaning will be provided with zip lock bags at the end of your trip. We will also offer you recommendations of places to take your fish to be cooked for you locally. NOTE: On any of our charters we will not leave the dock with the goal of "Filling the Coolers". We do not market our selves to Meat Hunters nor do we wish for them as clients.

Do I Have To Fly Fish In Order To Fish The Flats?
No, fly fishing is not required to catch fish on the flats of Appalachia Bay or anywhere. However, if you are a Fly fisherman we can accommodate you. These charters are limited to1- 2 persons due to the casting required. Little secret, you have a better chance at catching more fish using live bait and a spinning rod if you are not an experienced fly fisher person.

4-5 Persons In Flats Boat. Why Is This Not A Good Idea?
Flats boats are shallow water boats because of their weight. If you want your guide for the day to show you the very best in flats fishing he needs to remain light. Also, 4-5 anglers in a 24 ft boat is a bit much. We do offer the 4th person for an extra $25.00, but request that they are familiar with fishing and spinning gear .

Should I Bring My Own Gear?
Only if you absolutely want to, There really is no reason. We offer you some of the finest gear available today with each charter. Top of the line fly and spin fishing gear. I am certain you will not be disappointed.

Can I Eat My Fish?
Absolutely, Spotted Sea Trout is a very mild fish which can be fried, baked, or grilled. Redfish can be fried, grilled, or blackened. Local restaurants can prepare your catch to your taste, or you may carry it home to prepare .

How Much Of A Deposit Is Needed To Reserve Any Given Charter?
We do not require a deposit. While TGIF charters is a full service charter business, we have the country attitude that a person’s word is still enough for a business commitment. All that is asked is that You make a follow-up contact via phone or email the week prior to your charter to confirm dates and time, or a courtesy contact prior to the date of the charter to cancel or reschedule.

Seasickness And My Charter?
Boat charters have a wonderful effect on those that get motion sick. If you feel as though you or someone in your group has a problem with motion sickness please understand that the Trout Scout is a very stable wide bottomed boat, but you can still be affected. If you are worried, please take a precautionary drug such as Dramamine, Bonine or Trip tone at least 45 minutes prior to your charter's departure. No refunds will be issued due to seasickness.

Bad Weather And My Charter?
Cancellations due to bad weather are the captain’s discretion. Should a charter or tour be cancelled due to captain's discretion a refund will be issued for the unused portion of your activity unless there is a rescheduling?

Alcohol And My Charter?
Bring it! Keaton Beach’s logo is “A drinking community with a fishing problem” and you are here to enjoy. If drinking is your game then let the games begin. Here are a few tips. Heat, alcohol, and motion do not always mix. When drinking out in the sun chase a beer/cocktail with a bottle of water to avoid dehydration. Govern yourself; consume accordingly to get the most out of your charter. No glass bottles please. NOTE: Flats fishing takes coordination and concentration and there is nowhere to put your beer while you fish.

Can I Mount My Fish?
Catch a trophy? Yes it can be mounted, We have a taxidermist located in Valdosta, Ga who can mount your trophy to your request.
